Dr Archer is a specialist in Bariatric and laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery. He has practiced in the discipline, for over a decade and treated thousands of patients throughout NSW and WA.

He is a recognised fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member of the Australia and New Zealand Gastro Oesophageal Surgery Association, Australia and New Zealand Metabolic and Obesity Surgical Society and the International Federation of Surgery for Obesity.

After completing his medical degree and junior doctor years in Sydney, Dr Archer relocated permanently to WA for commencement of surgical training. Following appointment into the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons he commenced a Fellowship with the Australia and New Zealand Gastro Oesophageal Surgery Association (ANZGOSA).

This included a year training on the management of reflux disease with world renowned surgeon Professor Gregory Falk and advanced bariatrics at Concord Repatriation General Hospital. The second year fellowship included work at one of two Upper GI malignancy units within WA at Sir
Charles Gairdner Hospital. Through these years, he developed many skills including interventional endoscopy and minimally invasive management techniques.

Mr Archer has published multiple papers and participated in trials related to surgical oncology and upper GI disease. He has facilitated international surgical audits and spoken at international meetings. Mentoring and education have been demonstrated through roles with University of
Sydney, University of Notre Dame and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Trainees’ Association. He has a relaxed and approachable teaching style, promoting discussion and audience participation

When not looking after his patients, Leigh can usually be found with his wife and two kids. He has a strong interest in sailing small performance boats and keeps fit through cross training. He is caring and thoughtful with a passion for Closing the Gap on indigenous health inequality.
